Message From the Chief
The Gamewell Fire Department was organized in 1957 with help from the Gamewell
Ruritan Club and with the support of the communities in and surrounding
Gamewell. The first dollar donated to the fire department was a silver dollar
donated by Mrs. Clyde (Ruby) Watson. It was a silver dollar that her father had
in his pocket when he and his wife died in a house fire. The first Fire Chief
was Mr. A.D. Williams who was also the District Ranger for the N.C. Forest
Service. The first year the fire department was in service we ran over 30
calls and are now answering over 600 calls per year. We presently have 50
members who are ready to serve the community in times of emergency. Our department
has been able to provide our community with an above average level of service
over the years. Our goal is be a much bigger part of our community than just the
fire department. We are very proud and thankful to
our community for the support we have been given through out the years.
